Module 2: Research Essentials
Welcome to the Research Essentials Course.
This Open Educational Resources is offered as a short 8-hour self
directed and independent study course that will teach learners
skills and information that is essential to conducting informal and
formal research. Learners will explore basic approaches and best
practices to forming a research question, gathering information,
along with compiling and presenting results by referring to case
study examples and completing learning activities.
The material is grouped into 4 essential units as follows:
- Unit 1: Basic Research & Research Questions
- Unit 2: Gathering Information
- Unit 3: Ensuring Project Success
- Unit 4: Presenting Information
Each unit workbook will take learner about 2 hours to complete.
The workbooks are meant to guide learners in a step-by-step method
to attaining the stated learning outcome listed on the first page.
Print the workbook out and write notes in the margins. Fill in the
learning activities using a pencil to allow for mistakes and
brainstorming during your learning process. You may choose to
complete the workbooks on your own, but it may be helpful to locate
a mentor or trusted friend or advisor to give you feedback on your
completed learning activities for each unit.
Click on each unit to access the (pdf) workbook.
Funding for the development of these materials was provided by
