Skills for Success: Validation
Study
The Skills for Success: Validation
Study is a national applied research project with
the primary objective to validate and support the new Skills for
Success model, launched in 2021. The project is funded by the
Government of Canada's Adult Learning, Literacy, and Essential
Skills Program and led by Bow Valley College.

Success in Apprenticeship
Success in Apprenticeship was a 5-year foundational skills
project, funded by the Government of Canada's Adult Learning,
Literacy, and Essential Skills Program and led by Bow Valley
College.
The project's main objective was to support apprentices in
their Skills for Success through the integration of foundational
skills training within their technical program.
A free online Open Educational Resource is now available as
an output of the project, containing a wide variety of training

Office of Skills for Success
On May 18, 2021 the federal government, through Employment and
Social Development Canada and the Office of Skills for Success
(previously identified as OLES) officially released a new skills
model to replace what was previously identified as Essential
skills. The new model,
Skills for Success, is positioned to closely align with the
evolving needs of the Canadian workforce, economy and labour

TOWES Preparation Videos - NEW!
TOWES has released 2 new videos to support test takers with
preparing for TOWES. Visit the Test Taker Services section of the
website to watch the videos.
Open Educational Resource - Essential Skills
for TOWES
TOWES, through support from the
Alberta Ministry of Innovation and Advanced Education, has
finalized the development of a free, web-based resources for anyone
interested in practicing and improving literacy skills.

Canada Job Grant
The Canada Job Grant is
employer-driven training funding designed to help address skill
mismatches and ensure that new or existing employees are trained in
high-demand areas. This flexible program is designed to meet the
needs of businesses of all sizes, in all industries and regions.
Many TOWES training programs are eligible for funding
investment.

LES Capacity Building for Treaty 7
TOWES is leading a literacy and
essential skills capacity building initiative for Treaty 7 Career
Development Staff. Through consultations with Treaty 7
members TOWES will create and deliver workshops to build capacity
among urban and on-reserve members to guide and develop the
literacy and essential skills of aboriginal clients.

NEW Two Domain Assessment
TOWES is pleased to announce the
release of a new two domain general assessment, focusing
specifically on the LES domains of Reading and Numeracy. This
assessment best measures skills at levels 2 and 3.

TOWES: The Tool of Choice for Project
UpSkill
In a recent study prepared by the
SRDC and published August 2014, UpSkill: the Essentials to Excel Project,
utilized TOWES as the assessment tool - chosen for its reliability
and rigor. This report effectively and scientifically measures the
return on investment of literacy and essential skills training in
